Send it Saturday
For this ‘Send it Saturday’, I decided we were going to try our hand at foraging. Ya know, find some things we can use throughout the winter to feed the family, or things on the land we can use for healing, teas, etc. Fun right? I told the three littles to get ready to go outside with me to forage. It was instant complaints and questions.
“Why do we have to do this” “What is this” “Why don’t we just go to a store” “I don’t want to go outside” I explained what we were doing and offered the rice Krispies we made last night as a reward when we were finished.
We found persimmons and acorns. We also found some berries and flowers that are inedible to humans. They complained about picking up acorns. They were everywhere! It’s not like we had to search for them. Yet, “this hurts my back” “how many do we need” “what if they are nasty” “it’s hot” “I’m doing more work than she is”
We have been outside exactly 12 minutes! 12 freaking minutes!! This is my life; we can’t even do something new and somewhat adventurous together without complaining for 12 minutes? I told them we were almost done, and we could then go inside and chill. I look up, one is on the swing, one is off playing with a dog, one is sitting playing with weeds…. Wow.
Now to look up some recipes and see what we can do with acorns.
